An advertisement published Friday in the Carmel High School "HiLite" Newspaper supports and promotes white supremacy and racism.

The ad offers free music downloads on a website that FOX 59 is choosing to not reveal.

When notified of the advertisement's purpose, School Principal John Williams apologized and expressed regret for what he calls an oversight.

"It was a mistake on our part for it to run and there's no excuse for that. We should have done a better job of searching it out," Williams told FOX 59 Friday afternoon. In the after-school student pick-up line, parents were not happy to learn about the intent of the website and ad.

"I think most students wouldn't go for that and would see it for what it is and I think it was just a trick," Christine Loder said.

Carmel's isn't the first high school newspaper to be hacked by the white supremacist group.

Last week, the same thing happened to a high school in San Francisco, California.

In an e-mail alert to parents, Principal Williams promised the school will be more careful in the future and the district will be seeking legal advice.

"We are taking appropriate steps, including contacting our school attorney to pursue legal action," Williams wrote.

The school does not plan to interrupt the paper's normal distribution on campus.
