Woman's live-in boyfriend arrested for her murder

An Indianapolis man is accused of murdering his girlfriend.

It happened on the city's west side in the 5200 block of West Martha Street Monday morning.

When officers arrived, they found 42-year-old Sharmon Rodriguez unresponsive. Police said Rodriguez suffered abrasions, lacerations and contusions to her face. Emergency personnel pronounced Rodriguez dead at the scene.

Police said Rodriguez's live-in boyfriend, Shaun Long, had lacerations to his scalp and face. Long was taken in for questioning and later arrested.

Long is being held until his initial hearing where he will be formally charged by the Marion County Prosecutor's Office. A date for that initial hearing has not been set yet.
