Kayla Miracle's ride in the IHSAA State Wrestling Tournament was short lived but it still was record breaking. The sophomore from Culver Academies is the first girl to make it all the way to the state finals. Miracle, is in the 106 pound weight class and was apart of the first group to wrestle on Friday night.
She was shut out by Garett's Hayden Lee in the preliminary round 4-0. Miracle got taken down by the seventh-ranked Lee 54 seconds into the match and then gave up two near-fall points with 37 seconds left in the third period. But, just being there has inspired many to pursue their dreams.
"I just wrestled and left everything out on the mat. Everyone wants to win on Friday night but at least I made it here. This is just training for me because my future goal is to be in the Olympics. So for everyone else summer training makes winter champions but for me winter training makes summer champions," said Miracle.
Miracle's dream destination is the 2016 Olympic games, and the loss just change her goals. She finished the season with 42 and 6 record.
"I was very proud of her she wrestled an incredible match. I told her there is no doubt in the state of Indiana, you belong now. There's a lot of stuff on the message board and there was a lot of stuff we had to shelter her from this week but I saw it all. There was a lot of people that don't believe she belonged and I think she proved that she does," said her father Lee Miracle.
