The horses that performed in The Diving Horses of Atlantic City jumped because they wanted to. The horses enjoyed doing it. Read the book. Do some research. They successfully kept the show going for close to 75 years, and yes, they were monitored by the SPCA and other animal rights groups. Diamondseeker, maybe you could write them a letter and tell them how mad you are that they didn't wait until you were born to ask you how you felt about this.

This is genuine. The diving horses were a popular attraction at the Steel Pier in Atlantic City from the 1880's to the 1980's. Notice that there is a person on the horse. Please remember that animal rights are a fairly new concept in the US!
The horse only wanted to because they were abused or tortured to go against their instinct to jump. Have you seen the pictures or video of the tigers on horseback? those horses are terrified of a predator on their back, but because they are forced to do it, they have to. Many things are hidden from cameras and reporters, and just because it says it in a book doesnt mean its true. Of course they wont put "We forced the horse to jump x feet in the air for a cool stunt regardless of how dangerous it is to killing both horse and rider"
