Winter makes its return this winter with morning lows falling to single digits on both Saturday and Sunday for parts of Central Indiana. Before the colder weather gets here we will have another round of snow. This time accumulations will likely be more than an inch but not much more. There’s also another better chance for snow on the horizon.
Today’s snow will begin rolling in before Noon today but once we hit the afternoon hours problems could quickly start mounting on area roadways. The good news is that roads should be treated already, but as always there will be slick spots that will need the attention of area road crews. Hopefully most slick spots are discovered well before the afternoon school and work commute. The heaviest snow will likely begin during the afternoon rush hour. We could quickly see an inch or more snow falling from 5pm through 10pm.
The associated cold front with the system should pass through at around 10pm tonight. This will not mark the end of snow as we will continue to see minor accumulation overnight. Also as cold air arrives expect the atmosphere to continue to churn out some snow through the day on Saturday. We could see an additional half inch of snow adding to the already inch to 2 inches through the day on Saturday.
Finally, just a quick note on the winter weekend chill. Temperatures are going to be cold but wind chills will make Saturday morning dangerously cold. With wind speeds forecast at 15 – 25 and gusts over 30mph we expect to see several communities waking up to feel like temps below zero. Sunday will remain cold but winds and temperatures will both improve enough where the feels like temperatures for all of Central Indiana will remain above zero.
