Federal investigators are offering their assistance to help find the cause of a Bedford church fire.
Smoke was first noticed coming from the 60 year old Central Church of Christ around 12:15 Thursday morning.
Bedford firefighters believed they had the blaze contained soon after they arrived, but it spread into the sanctuary attic and then into the roof.
Church members say the building is a total loss and it's like losing a good friend.
"God doesn't do something like this unless he's got something better in mind for us. I'm just totally confident that we're going to do something better with what's left," elder Clovis Parsley said.
Central Church of Christ is surrounded by property they own, but determining where to rebuild could be up to, in part, the settlement with the insurance company.
A cause is still being investigated and criminal activity is not suspected.
The fire appears to have first sparked above the ceiling near an office portion of the church.
No firefighters or residents were injured.
