CARROL COUNTY, IN —
At approximately 7:48 AM Tuesday morning, Indiana State Police were notified by Carroll County Dispatch of a semi/car crash on State Road 25 approximately one mile north of Burrows, IN.A preliminary investigation revelead that a Dodge Charger driven by Brian Jobe, 28 years old from Peru, IN was northbound on State Road 25. A semi pulling an empty box trailer driven by Kenneth D. Pass, 59 years old from Goshen, IN was southbound on State Road 25.
According to police, Jobe pulled out to pass another semi northbound when he hit the southbound semi head on. The semi ended up in a bean field on the west side of the road and the Charger ended up in the middle of State Road 25.
Jobe was pronounced dead at the scene from blunt trauma to the body. He was wearing a seatbelt and airbags were deployed but the crash was so severe that safety equipment was ineffective.
Pass, the driver of the semi, was transported by ambulance to Logansport Memorial Hospital with minor injuries.
Traffic was halted for approximately two hours before the road was reopened. The investigation is continuing.
Road conditions at the time of the crash were dry but a light fog was present.
"Whenever you pass, you should be sure nothing is coming from the other direction," said Sergeant Dan Ziegler of the Indiana State Police. "Always check before pulling out to insure a safe pass around the vehicle you are passing."
