wxin-fishers-carjacking-082509

A man who works at the Pep Boys Auto Store in Fishers never imagined being a key witness to a crime. But that's exactly what happened while he was taking a lunch break.

"A guy pulled up in a red Grand AM Pontiac. He gets out of the car and he looks around this car. He's looking around and the next thing I know he's walking across the street toward Wal-Mart."

The car he saw was the same one Fishers detectives were looking for and the man they wanted to catch. A Village Pantry store manager says she was walking to her car around 11:30am Tuesday. She was on her way to the bank to deposit money from the store sales. She says a man approached her, grabbed her by the hair and threw her on the ground. He stole the money and her car. The frantic woman called 911.

"He hit my head on the ground" , the victim said.

The suspect didn't drive far. He ditched the car at the Pep Boys auto store in the same strip mall where the village pantry is located.

"He just walked. He calmly walked across the street."

The witness says he didn't see anything in the man's hands. But detectives are hoping he left behind fingerprints on the car that will lead them straight to the suspect.

"It's a scary world out here. We all got to be careful. "

Officers say they're looking for a white male with a dark complexion. He's between five feet 8 inches tall and six feet. He looks about fifty to fifty-five years old with shoulder length stringy black hair. He was last seen wearing blue pants and a blue button down shirt. If you can help with the investigation, call the Fishers Police Department.
