Dispatchers in one central Indiana community credit an 8-year-old with saving her great grandmother's life. The little girl placed a heroic call to emergency officials Carroll county after her great grandmother fell at her home in Monticello.

Like most 8-year-olds, Micaila Cooley loves sports and her family -- especially her great grandmother.

"Well she's pretty much my 2nd favorite person in the world," said Micaila Cooley.

Second of course to her mom.

"She takes us to the park and she's really fun," said Cooley.

But unlike a most other 8-year-olds, Micaila Cooley very likely saved her great grandmother's life. She and her younger sisters were visiting when 70-year-old Mereda McCumbers lost her balance outside and fell backwards.

"She was lying down, she had blood coming out of the back of her head. We thought she was dying," said Cooley.

Micaila immediately picked up the phone and dialed 911.

For what may have seemed like an eternity to really anyone, Micaila stayed on the phone, kept her little sisters calm, applied pressure to her great grandmother's head, and reassured her help was on the way.

"It was really shocking that being 8-years-old she could do that in that situation, without being afraid. She even waited until after they left with my grandma to cry, so we were pretty proud of her," said Micaila's mother, Carrie Sherrick.

And chances are, Micaila just moved to the top of her great grandma's 'favorite people in the world' list.

"I think she was pretty touched and crying. They've always had a very special bond," said Sherrick.

Mereda McCumbers was airlifted to Methodist Hospital for bleeding on the brain. She may be released Tuesday.
