Residents of a small community in Miami County are mourning the death of a mother of three who died as a result of injuries she suffered in a fiery car crash.

The accident happened Sunday in McGrawsville, Indiana near Peru.

Good Samaritans pulled the woman and her children from their vehicle after it collided with another car and smashed into a burning house.

Brian and Valerie Troyer never imagined they'd be faced with rescuing four members of their own church or witness the accident that destroyed this home.

But that's exactly what happened Sunday at the intersection of County Roads 850 South and 300 East when a 17 year old driver blew threw a stop sign and collided with Audra Hay's van.

"It was a pretty hard impact. The van tumbled three times before it hit the house. The car catapulted, turned and went into the house."

The Troyers called 911 and helped free the 17 year old.

By this time the teen's car was on fire and flames were engulfing the house.

"I went to the van and I looked in the window and this little head popped up, and it was Hunter, my student."

Eight year old Hunter Hays one of Valerie's second graders and his two siblings were in the back seat and Audra was unconscious in the front.

The Troyers quickly got the kids out of harms way.

"We knew we had to get Audra out. The fire was spreading. I could feel the heat on my back."

"The only door that would open was the passenger side on the front seat, and she was jammed up underneath the steering wheel."

Another good Samaritan helped extricate Audra.

Now homeowner John Kinsella is salvaging what little he can from the century old farm house where his wife was born.

It's just at test of faith I guess. It's hard to talk about some of it, but it's just a test of faith, you know."

Residents of this tiny community are left to think about the life that was lost here and those that were saved.

"I believe God put us in the place we needed to be to help"

Audra was airlifted to Parkview Hospital in Fort Wayne.

She underwent surgery for head injuries and passed away Monday afternoon.
